“I’m proud of the campaign that we’ve run to unify our country and to advocate conservative solutions”, a visibly emotional Bush said.
Once a favourite mainstream candidate for the Republicans – and brother and son to two USA presidents – Mr Bush saw his campaign flag in recent months.
Rubio is predicting that he will win the GOP nomination after performing well in the SC primary.
In Richland County, 28,176 individuals went to the polls during the Republican presidential primary in 2008. Marco Rubio, who in SC pulled together a coalition of conservative and establishment Republicans to challenge for second place.
For Jeb Bush, once the Republican with the most money and the biggest name, bowing out came with a lump in his throat.
Still, he was lagging far behind in the primary in SC, where his well-organized campaign was outmatched by insurgent billionaire Donald Trump, and Sens. But Jeb’s decision to drop out after a dismal SC finish shows that the Bush brand isn’t what it once was.
“Thank you, Nevada”, Clinton said after the vote.
The win means Trump will walk away with at least 44 of the 50 delegates at stake.
Going into the primary, Trump had the support of 28 percent of likely voters, while Cruz had 23 percent in The Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Marist poll of likely Republican primary voters.
The nation’s first Southern state primary helped launch Donald Trump to a strong victory and forced a former front-runner to drop out of the race. Ted Cruz of Texas with more than half the precincts counted as of 9 p.m. Richland County voters gave Marco Rubio 27.9 percent of the vote, while Trump took 23.3 percent. In last Saturday’s debate, Trump attacked former President George W. Bush over his handling of the Iraq War, and on Thursday he tussled with Pope Francis over immigration.
The victories by Mr Trump and Mrs Clinton solidified their positions as the front-runners to win their parties’ respective presidential nominations ahead of the 8 November election.
Meanwhile, in Nevada, Hillary Clinton had a convincing over Bernie Sanders in the Democratic caucuses, by 52.6% to 47.4%.
