National Basteball Association to offer pay-per-view game package

Nearly all major cable and satellite providers in the country already offer NBA’s League Pass such as Comcast, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable, Dish, Verizon and AT&T. Not all hoops addicts, though, has the time or money to justify paying the price of $199.99 for access to the league’s full slate of games.

In the past, fans could only buy all out-of-market games for the season, but this year, the league is also offering a team package, where a fan who lives out of the primary market can get all the team’s games for $119.99.

Again, there’s no harm in offering a single-game price. There is one caveat, though; nationally televised games can’t be purchased this way – since anyone can just watch on ESPN or whatever network they’re on.

No professional sport makes itself more accessible than the National Basteball Association.

Who’s interested enough in a single game to pay $7 for it it but not buy a full-season package, either a team or league-wide version?

“Our fans are going to tell us what the appropriate price is, and even if it does cannibalize to a certain degree, the most important thing is to satisfy the fans of the game”. However, that’s not something that will be available for the 2015-16 season. With the announcement of the pay-per-view for single games, you have to wonder if any changes will be coming to the League Pass service as well. “I think ultimately it gets too confusing for consumers, especially at that price point, for $6.99, I don’t think it’s worth having that many more options”.
