Malaysia has arrested a suspected militant who confessed to be planning an attack in the country.
Malaysia has raised its security alert level following the January 14 attacks in Jakarta, the capital of neighboring Indonesia, that left eight people dead.
The force’s special branch later revealed that one of the Indonesian bombers had contacted a Malaysian mobile number before the violence.
“Attacks could be indiscriminate and may target Western interests or locations frequented by Westerners”, read a travel advisory post on the Australian government website. Kuala Lumpur was not highlighted by colour on the map.
“We have enhanced patrolling in areas frequented by the public with the help of the military”, he said in a short statement.
They added that there was “nothing to be alarmed of” and that they would “continue to keep foreign missions informed on the security developments”.
Australia, Britain, Canada and New Zealand earlier warned their citizens against travelling to the coastal islands of east Sabah over risks of kidnapping. There has been an increase in kidnapping by groups operating in the southern Philippines, some with the ability to conduct kidnaps on the coast of Sabah, the office said, while also citing an natural disaster that took place in June and increased instances of haze.
The advisory also advised “Australians to reconsider the need to travel to the coastal region of eastern Sabah and exercise normal security precautions in Malaysia overall”.

Resorts in the area are also prohibited from organizing nighttime activities including diving and fishing.
