Australian golfer Marcus Fraser has claimed his third European tour title with a two-shot victory in the inaugural Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur.

Fraser carded a closing three-under-par 68 at Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) to win at 15 under, while Soo Min ended in second place with 73, tied with Miguel Tabuena of Philippines (68).
It’s only natural that a young guy playing in just his second European Tour event and leading for nearly the entire day may suffer an attack of nerves.
The South Korean led by two shots heading onto the 16th tee, but he double bogeyed that hole before repeating the feat at the 18th to hand Fraser his third European Tour title and first since his triumph at the Ballantine’s Championship in April 2010.
“I was pretty nervous on 17, and then I don’t know how I held onto the putter just trying to stand over that one on the last, I was pretty nervous”.
“Every time I join a competition, my kids will always ask me to bring home a trophy”.
“Luckily I made contact and it started somewhere where it was supposed to and went in the hole. And I’ll say I’ll try, I’ll try and this time I’ll take one home and I’ll get them to take it to school for show and tell”, he said.
“A lot of putts found their way into the hole over the weekend and it was definitely my week”.
“So I just tried to keep reminding myself to breathe and to play my own game and see what I could do”. He was only one of six players who birdied the closing hole, which earned him his career best payday of Dollars 260,565. “But all day in the back of my head I felt like I had a chance”. I have three top ten’s in three events now so it is okay.

Nathan Holman of Australia settled for eighth, while Peter Uihlein‘s fantastic round of 66 was enough to lift him into a tie for ninth, with the American finishing alongside India’s Rahil Gangjee and Japan’s Masahiro Kawamura.
