German automaker Daimler posts 8 percent Q2 growth

Daimler AG (DDAIF.PK) reported that its second-quarter profit attributable to shareholders increased to 2.27 billion euros from 2.10 billion euros, prior year. The division had its best quarter so far for unit sales, with strong growth in China, the world’s biggest auto market.

The company sold 714,800 passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the quarter, a gain of 14 percent over the previous year.

In Mercedes-Benz Cars, revenue grew 19 percent to 21.1 billion euros. With “Best Customer Experience” Mercedes-Benz adjusts its sales organization specifically to the changing preferences of its customers. The new C-Class and the expanded range of compact cars contributed significantly to growth.

Daimler said the significant growth in Group EBIT was primarily driven by the biggest division, Mercedes-Benz Cars, as a result of its ongoing growth in unit sales and the systematic implementation of its “Fit for Leadership ” efficiency program. Daimler assumes that Group revenue will increase significantly in 2015. Unit sales of 125,100 vehicles were almost close to a year ago.

Adjusted earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) rose to 3.8 billion euros ($4.15 billion), Stuttgart-based Daimler said on Thursday, well above the 3.31 billion euros forecast in a Reuters poll.

Analysts cheered the results and shares rose 2.2 percent in early trading.

Daimler’s DAIGn.DE Mercedes-Benz is confident of a good second half of the year in China, despite problems experienced by rivals, a board member told a German online magazine.

The first Mercedes me Store opened at the Inner Alster lake in Hamburg in June 2014; the second opened in Milan next to the Milan Cathedral in May this year.
