The Indian government introduced rules blocking Internet services from having different pricing policies for accessing different parts of the web, effectively shuttering the Free Basics program in that country, one of Facebook’s most important emerging markets. And the other piece is a laser comms system twelve times faster to beam down access.

Facebook chief Zuckerberg had come out in defence of the Free Basics (formerly Internet.org) programme time and again, saying it did not block or throttle other services and is not in conflict with net neutrality.

“Every country is different”, Zuckerberg said in a wide-ranging but gentle keynote interview at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Facebook’s Free Basics has rolled out in 38 countries.

Mark explained how he had dreamed about virtual reality since he was still a kid.

“It will be profound”, he said of VR. Samsung has offered Facebook and Oculus a connection point to more causal VR consumers through their widespread mobile ecosystem. As regards to his Jarvis project, he said that it’s not a big endeavor as he only wishes to control his house.

Asked if zero-rating should be allowed, he said, “It depends on context and fairness of access”.
