David Moyes warns Louis van Gaal he must deliver Champions League football

Mourinho has been heavily linked with the Red Devils hot seat in recent weeks, although some reports have claimed he has become impatient while waiting to hear from the United board.

“I think as Manchester United, you have to keep the ball in spite of the pressure of Sunderland”.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has delivered a warning to current manager Louis van Gaal that failure to qualify for the Champions League won’t be accepted.

Indeed, as Kluivert points out, United remain fifth in the table, and despite Manchester City’s loss to title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, they are six points behind their fierce local rivals. “They are a club of status and want to be at that level, if not more”.

Given his own experience, Moyes has sympathy for Van Gaal: “There’s so much media attention on Louis just now”, he said. (If I did) then you think the media is right and it is not like that.

The Express says that United playmaker Juan Mata will be offloaded in the summer should the Portuguese get the job.

Anthony Martial equalised before half-time, but Sunderland regained the lead when Martial’s attempt to clear Lamine Kone’s header from Khazri’s corner off the line hit De Gea’s elbow and rolled over the line.

“We needed to win this game”.

Mourinho and Van Gaal’s relationship goes long time back when both were involved with Barcelona.

“Sunderland had more aggression than ourselves and we did not cope with that well”, said Van Gaal who refused to comment on his future. It is still possible but it’s very hard. Because they didn’t deliver today (Saturday), you’re disappointed and frustrated, but we’re working together.

But Rooney said United’s players must accept some of the responsibility for another disappointing season.
