Ten Years Later David Attenborough Is Returning For A Second Planet Earth

Sir David Attenborough is returning to our screens for the second instalment of Planet Earth.

The BBC has announced a follow up to their 2006 hit, of the same name, with a new six-part series which is due to air later this year.

In addition to a boosted resolution, the BBC announcement reveals that Planet Earth II has been shot using the latest camera stabilisation, remote recording and aerial drone technology.

Tobi de Graaff, the executive VP of Western Europe at BBC Worldwide, added: “Planet Earth II is simply outstanding television and these pre-sales are a testament to its unbelievable quality”.

The latest series has been three years in the making, and has taken advantage of the latest technological advances. At the company’s Showcase event, which begins today, famed natural history broadcaster Attenborough will be interviewed on stage by documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux.

The six-part series will again focus of the wild diversity of nature on our planet. The original, also narrated by David Attenborough, won four Emmys.

Check out the trailer for the original Planet Earth in the video clip below. Planet Earth 2 will explore earth’s habitats and the animals, plants and creatures that survive in them. Combining dramatic animal behaviour and incredible wildlife spectacle, Planet Earth II promises to give you the most immersive wildlife documentary experience to date.

Although turning 90 in May, Sir David shows no signs of slowing down.
