Long-term Giggs plan, Woodward backs Van Gaal, Mourinho plea

Jose Mourinho insists he is “not looking for a club, clubs are looking for me”, amid consistent reports that he is being lined up to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

United head into the fifth-round tie at Greenhous Meadow in considerable need of an upturn in results, their previous two outings having been 2-1 defeats in the Barclays Premier League at Sunderland and Europa League last 32 at FC Midtjylland.

United’s travelling support sang their displeasure as the 2-1 loss on Thursday evening (Friday NZ Time) dented the team’s best hope of returning to the Champions League next season.

It’s clear that he isn’t the player he once was, and certainly the club isn’t as successful as it has been in years past.

“They are getting paid X amount of money to perform to the level they should be at that size of club and they have not done it. I want to see Inter fans smiling again and so I hope to witness a victory tomorrow”.

The former Tottenham and Southampton manager is unimpressed by the squad that has been assembled by Louis van Gaal at the cost of around £250million.

“And we have cars or planes all laid on ready to whisk him away after the Shrewsbury game if the worse happens to him”. “It just looks as if the players are not enjoying their football”, he further added.

The Manchester United supporting punters here in the Transfer Tavern are anxious ahead of Monday night’s FA Cup game with League One outfit Shrewsbury Town, given the Red Devils’ recent patchy form. On Monday we have to win. But we know what to expect. The performance wasn’t good enough and it has to be better’.

“I think in these games when you play teams that are lesser than Manchester United, you need to win your tackles and second balls”.

With his side six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League, the Dutchman admitted earlier this week the most viable way into next season’s Champions League for United would be winning the Europa League.

Coppell thinks recruitment could be partly responsible and the 60-year-old former Crystal Palace and Reading boss questioned whether Van Gaal has been in sole control of decisions on new signings.
