And I know that you know, the system is rigged.

It remains to be seen if Spike Lee’s endorsement of Bernie Sanders can lead to a tangible result for the senator in SC, but if Sanders hopes to wrestle the Democratic nomination away from the clutches of Hillary Clinton, he will know that black voters need to be on his side before it is too late.

That group made up just 13 percent of the Nevada electorate but is expected to comprise a majority of those who turn out this weekend in South Carolina’s Democratic primary.

According to Sanders’ campaign, Lee explains to Americans that Sanders does not take money from corporations and therefore will not owe anyone any favors if elected. If Bernie gets in the White House, he will do the right thing. “And that’s why I’m officially endorsing my brother Bernie Sanders”, Lee says.

Lee is among the most politically-oriented directors of his generation, with a string of films examining race relations, police brutality and the civil rights movement.

Lee isn’t the only well-known African-American cultural figure to have endorsed Sanders. Lee is not the only Black celebrity to back Sanders.

A recent poll in the state showed Hillary having the backing of 65 per cent black voters as against Sanders’s 28.

“Enough talk. Time for action”, Lee adds. Donald Trump won the state’s Republican primary last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton has used one of her backers, Morgan Freeman, and his famous voice in some of her ads. The Democrat is the highest-ranking African American in Congress.
