The kids in the chorus at PS 22 have an annual tradition for their last practice: they perform a song with their director, Gregg Breinberg.

The students of PS22 sing “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”
After one beloved teacher received some tough news, the school choir made sure she knew that they’d be there to support her. Here they tackle McBride’s 2011 hit that was used as an anthem for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “It’s lovely, it’s powerful, and it’s inspiring – all these descriptions apply to this phenomenal teacher and human being”.
The song, about fiercely loving someone battling cancer, brought the bilingual teacher to tears.
He said she was overwhelmed with the show of support from her students.
I want to thank you for this special moment. I love my job. It’s almost impossible not to get choked up hearing the young students sing lyrics like “When you’re weak, I’ll be strong When you let go, I’ll hold on.”
By the end of the song, she was weeping openly, but also smiling and clearly touched.

The video was trending nationally on Wednesday, with hundreds posting on social media about the emotional tribute.
