Watch Boston robot obey Asimov’s three laws

In order to truly test how far the new Atlas has come, the team from Boston Dynamics get a little bit shirty with the innocent-looking robot, knocking boxes from its “hands” and trying to push him over with a hockey stick. It was already the main robot used by competitors in last year’s DARPA Robotics Challenge and wasn’t doing too bad – it was cleaning its room and everything. The company isn’t saying much more, but the video does give clues to a number of other improvements, such as a lower center of gravity and a leg architecture similar in function to that of the mountain goat-like Spot robot.

The company has previously released videos of its four-legged Big Dog, Little Dog and Cheetah robots and of the first version of Atlas, which was larger, tethered by a cable and less agile. Watch the above video in terror as the latest version of the terminator-like robot tromps through the snowy woods, likely plotting your demise.

Called Atlas, The Next Generation, the robot has capabilities like walking in snow, picking up objects, opening doors, and even helping itself up off the floor.

The human is recorded taking some cheap shots at Atlas the robot.

The taunting continues for more than 30 seconds, with the bespectacled sociopath continuing to slap the box away like an overweight puck whenever Atlas gets close.
