Fire burns part of historic West Virginia town Harpers Ferry

Several buildings have been destroyed in a 3-alarm fire in Old Town Harper’s Ferry in West Virginia early Thursday morning.

“This is devastating for Harpers Ferry, one of the most historic towns in the U.S.”, Vaughn said.

Jefferson County emergency officials say the call about the fire on High Street came in at 3:15 a.m. The fire is still burning at two buildings at last check.

They are joined by crews from surrounding counties including Berkeley, Loudoun, Va., Washington and Frederick, Md.

Jefferson County officials say only businesses were impacted by the fire. No injuries have been reported, but it appears that at least one building has been affected.
