Shooting victims found at the home were identified as Buckner’s parents Vic Buckner, 50, and Kimberly Buckner, 49, and his sisters, Kaitlin Buckner, 18, and Emma Buckner, 6.

Family members told investigators that Alex Buckner, who lived in the home, had received treatment in Oklahoma for drug abuse.

The investigation is far from over as police work to determine what caused Alex to turn a gun on his family.

Phoenix police and firefighters braved bullets and flames as they responded to a shooting and house fire that left four people dead Tuesday, including the gunman, authorities said. Officers put on breathing equipment and fire clothes before entering the burning house. Some firefighters stood on the roof to extinguish flames bursting from the home. One police officer was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Phoenix police have revealed that the alleged gunman shot and killed his relatives after setting portions of their home on fire.

Emergency crews responded after a woman inside a house called 911 and said her brother shot someone.

“On a day of tragedy – unbelievable tragedy, unbelievable violence that occurred inside that home – we should also take heart in the incredible heroism of our Phoenix police officers and firefighters”.

Police got a search warrant for the home on Tuesday evening and expected to be on scene all night long.

Police say at least 2 people were shot, and that an active remained inside. It is not now known if any of the victims were still alive when law enforcement officers and firefighters arrived, AZ Family reports. James Graham says he wasn’t close to his neighbors but they chatted occasionally and never mentioned any issues.

“The police woke us up and asked if they could go in the backyard”, said Ted Moss. The first officers on scene went into the house because they felt they had to act quickly, Crump said. The police have no record of ever having been called to the house.

Crump says the gunshot victims’ conditions aren’t available, and it’s unclear whether there are any additional victims at the home on the city’s northwest side.
