Amazon hopes to pack a punch with Jean-Claude Van Damme pilot
“Jean-Claude Van Johnson will star Van Damme as a version of himself – a famous actor and martial-arts pro who comes out of retirement to resume his alter-ego: an undercover private contractor by the name of Jean-Claude Van Johnson”. He also will have the chance to reconnect with a fellow operative named Vanessa, the love of his life.

Jean-Claude Van Johnsons future is a tad more bright with a pilot at Amazon over one at a broadcast network, as the streaming service generally picks up the more noteworthy pilots it orders, without very many left floundering without a home. We expect Jean-Claude Van Johnson may fall into the cable category, but we could be wrong. This plot sounds outstanding, and could end up being the closest we ever get to a live-action spiritual sequel to Archer.
The show is super-meta, using the premise that Van Damme’s movie roles (in projects like “Double Team” and “Street Fighter”) were really just cover for his missions, that Van Johnson is his real identity, and it’s all taking place in a world where other actors are really undercover agents. Making it a TV series is an interesting twist, and now Amazon has ordered a pilot.
Here’s one we didn’t see coming – Ridley Scott’s TV production company, Scott Free Television, is developing a new series especially for Mr Jean-Claude Van Damme.

That self aware slant sounds like it could be a lot of fun, especially with Van Damme himself in on the joke and there is said to be plenty of room for both comedy and action, according to Slashfilm who broke the news.
