Ferrari Models Affected By Takata Airbag Recall Too

However, this is unrelated to exploding shrapnel issue fitted to nearly 20 million cars in the US.

The vehicles may be equipped with a driver-side airbag “that was improperly assembled” causing the airbag “to deploy in a rotated orientation”, the company reported earlier, saying there was a greater risk of injury.

Takata notified Ferrari about the possible defect on June 16 and the company decided a recall was necessary on June 22, according to the document.

Ferrari may be the toniest, but it is only the latest brand to be caught up in the recalls of cars over defective airbags.

The still-expanding Takata air bag failure, the largest automobile recall in the industry’s history, has already affected more than 33 million vehicles sold in the United States.

Ferrari’s problem with assembling the airbags comes amid a roiling scandal over defective Takata airbags, which have been linked to eight deaths and more than 100 injuries around the world.

“Takata informed Ferrari S.p. A of the possibility of a defect in certain 2015 MY Driver’s Side Airbag Modules”.

Nevertheless, the prancing horse marquee issued the Takata airbag recall “out of an abundance of caution [it] is moving swiftly to issue a stop sale order and implement a safety defect recall” to fix the defect on all possibly-affected vehicles.

Ferrari isn’t a volume manufacturer which means only 2,600 cars worldwide are affected – over 800 of which are in North America. The models within the purview of such recall are 458 Italia, the 458 Spider, the 458 Speciale, the 458 Speciale A, the California T, the FF, the F12 Berlinetta and the LaFerrari.

Cars produced between December 2014 and April 2015 may have the faulty airbags fitted.
