Hue Jackson: Browns will see if Josh Gordon is ‘right fit’

Jackson said it will be important to draft the best player available, despite a hole at quarterback that dates to 1999. “We will have no further comment at this time”.

Gordon has applied for reinstatement after missing all of 2015 during an indefinite suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy for at least the third time. Jackson discussed a variety of topics Wednesday, including the team’s draft plans and updates on quarterback Johnny Manziel and wide receiver Josh Gordon.

Jackson refused to say they are headed down that road. “I really felt like I learned a lot”.

Through the use of technology, Dr. Voos will be given on-field feedback from players as they go through the drills, including heart rate, functional movements, workloads and other biometric markers. “I think his future on our team will be addressed here pretty soon”. “Those two are a little different”. But I’m not going to bend them. I don’t think this day and age in pro football that you can.

The Browns readily admit they need to find a franchise quarterback. If a player is going to embarrass the organization, he won’t be around long.

Outside linebacker Armonty Bryant pleaded not guilty Wednesday in a Cleveland court to two felony drug charges.

Manziel was a first-round pick just two years ago, but his personal demons (which include, but are not limited to, issues with alcohol and two alleged domestic incidents) have derailed his career.

“I want guys that have high character and high football character”, Jackson said. “Is he a good fit for us?” I think he has talent, but again, it’s not just about talent. “Then on top of that, we’ll be a group that’s hard-working, that we’ll have some grit, that we’ll be physically and mentally tough and be resilient”, Jackson said. We all know accountability goes both ways.

It has been widely reported and expected that the Browns will take a quarterback with their first round pick, most likely selecting from the presumed top three of Cal’s Jared Goff, North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz and Memphis’ Paxton Lynch. Likewise at the other spots.

When asked about how much importance he plays in interviews, Koetter drew upon his experience past year when the Bucs fully vetted Jameis Winston before making him the No. 1 overall pick.

“I’ve had an opportunity to help draft players that come from small schools before”, Jackson said. I think we’re going to draft whoever we think is the best player at No. 2 for us. But if they leave I can’t worry about that. That kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

He added, “it’s not creating needs”. There’s still some players on the team that have a chance to ascend and continue to play as well.
