Mary Poppins Sequel Wants Broadway Sensation Opposite Emily Blunt

Charles Sykes/Charles Sykes/Invision/AP “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is reportedly in talks to co-star in Disney’s “Mary Poppins” sequel.

Rob Marshall, who directed Blunt in another Disney musical, Into the Woods, will direct Mary Poppins, which does not yet have a release date.

Miranda is being eyed for the role of Jack, a “lamplighter” akin to Dick Van Dyke’s Bert character in the original 1964 film. He also wrote the script and songs for “Hamilton” and will likely contribute his songwriting talents to the “Mary Poppins” sequel. Check out some of Miranda’s oh-so-catchy work in Hamilton… Van Dyke also played the owner of the bank and Mr. Bank’s (David Tomlinson) boss.

Disgusting puns aside, the latest development revolving Disney’s planned reboot of the classic Mary Poppins might be more than a spoonful of sugar. Emily Blunt (Sicario) is the Mouse House’s planned titular “practical flawless in every way” nanny.

Said to be set 20 years after the beloved original, there’s no word yet on an official title or release window for Disney’s Mary Poppins sequel.

The studio already has strong ties with Miranda, who helped compose original music for “Star Wars: the Force Awakens” as well as their upcoming animated tale “Moana”.
