Your smartphone can help Stephen Hawking discover alien life

It should be noted that Yuri Milner recently announced that he is willing to fund Stephen Hawking’s project for the study of extraterrestrial life.

A Jewish billionaire is donating $100 million to answer the question we have been asking since the beginning of the past century – and certainly since ET cycled onto our screens in 1982: is there intelligent alien life out there?

Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking (pictured at the Breakthrough Listen launch on Monday) and Russian tech entrepreneur Yuri Milner are pushing the search for extraterrestrial life into top gear, drawing on the world’s computing power.

Mankind for that reason “happen to be warm pests”. Project scientists will start scanning the entire Milky Way along with its neighboring galaxies in an attempt to find radio waves and light sources.

With this huge initiative, the telescopes to be used are 50 times more sensitive than other space telescopes and will scan 10 times the territory that was covered by previous search attempts.

Astronomers are to embark on the most intensive search for alien life yet by listening out for potential radio signals coming from advanced civilisations far beyond the solar system. “If so, they will be vastly more powerful and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria”, he added.

The hunt is even made more exciting with every smartphone owners asked to get involved by downloading an app that would help find aliens if they do really exists.

In 1584, Dominican priest Giordano Bruno had said that nature of all planetary worlds was similar to earth as they all had very high odds of having animals and inhabitants. “It’s time to commit to finding the answer – to search for life beyond Earth“, he said.
