Construction started on 1,800 homes for Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank previous year, 265 of them in wildcat outposts, settlements watchdog Peace Now said Sunday in its annual report, AFP reported.

Meanwhile, hundreds of stone-throwing Palestinian youth clashed with Israeli soldiers who raided a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Monday, leaving dozens shot and wounded.

The suspect was a 17-year-old from a village near the West Bank city of Bethlehem, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

William Booth, The Post’s Jerusalem bureau chief, and Sufian Taha, a reporter, were conducting interviews at Damascus Gate in the holy city when Israeli border police detained them for roughly half an hour. “Once the circumstances were clarified and there was no suspicion of criminal activity, the detained were immediately released”, police said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he supports negotiations without preconditions, he objects to the “ultimatum” of Paris recognising a Palestinian state if talks fail, which he charges would use as an incentive for Palestinians to blow the talks.

JERUSALEM (AP) – France has presented Israel and the Palestinians with a proposal for an global peace conference, the sides said Tuesday, but the plan received a cool response from Israel, casting doubt on the first push for peace in almost two years.

“The Government Press Office regrets today’s incident at Damascus Gate in which a correspondent for the Washington Post was unnecessarily detained by the Border Police – probably the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding”, the statement read.

At least 27 Israelis have been killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians since then. “Both shot & killed by police”, Rosenfeld tweeted.

It was the fifth attack reported on Sunday, as violence between Israelis and Palestinians rages on.
