The blaze that broke out shortly before 3 a.m. off Mulholland Highway near Decker Canyon is 35 percent contained.

The cause is under investigation.

Authorities say a 10-acre brush fire on canyon hillsides has prompted evacuations at several homes in Malibu.

The size of the brush fire was downgraded from its original estimate of 20 acres, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Rey Dong.

The woman was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center at around 7:30 a.m. for treatment of “major injuries”, according to ABC 7. Ken Kondo, the emergency program manager for the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, said approximately 200 LACOFD personnel were on the scene and watching for hotspots that could reignite the blaze.

Video showed the firefighter being air lifted into a Fire Department helicopter at about 7:30 a.m.

“We’ve learned that the fire season is pretty much year round now”, Wright said.

Over 100 kids at nearby camps were on standby to evacuate, but no evacuations were ordered. Helicopters made water drops on the blazing slopes just above the highway.
