The video site has announced an update to its blurring feature, which is now able to blur specific objects as they move across the screen.

Sometimes you’ll upload a YouTube video and notice something that shouldn’t be there. Previously, users were limited to a single tool, which would recognize faces within the chosen video and blur them automatically. If you need to blur multiple areas in the video, that’s also possible – just click and drag new boxes over the additional parts you want to hide. YouTube imagines people will use the tool to protect sensitive information, like license plate or credit card numbers, and to protect people’s identities in compromising interviews or situations. You’ll find it under Blurring effects tab Custom blurring Edit within the Enhancements tools in the video editor/uploader.

The new feature, which is only available on YouTube for desktop right now, makes it easy to select an item within the video and blur it throughout. So if you decide you want to blur something out later on, you can do that quite easily. Draw a box around the object that needs to be blurred and the object will remain blurred as it moves throughout the video.

YouTube today launched Custom Blurring tool for creators.

YouTube also says that the Blurring tool was built with anonymity in mind.
