Turkey PM worried about Russian actions in Syria
SANA says that during the call with Putin on Wednesday, the Syrian president confirmed Damascus’ readiness to support the implementation of the agreement for a “cessation of hostilities” in Syria. The proposed truce will not include the Islamic State group or the Nusra Front, but the 18 nations that have agreed on a roadmap to peace in Syria have not yet agreed on a list of other “terrorist organizations” that will also continue to be targeted.

As part of agreements facilitated through discussions in Munich earlier in February, 62 trucks in Madimayet, reaching 40,000 people, had been delivered, although the process “has not been straightforward”, Mr. O’Brien said.
“By and large, a number of (U.S.) officials in fact attempted to call into question the agreements reached, which were approved by the two presidents”, she told a news briefing on Thursday.
The UN’s Syria envoy said the war-battered country is facing a “crucial day” ahead of a deadline of midnight on Friday for a partial truce brokered by Moscow and Washington.
“A prolonged war is in no one’s interest”, he said. The agreement on cessation of hostilities must finally and unequivocally produce what this Council’s resolutions and the basic tenets and obligations under global law could not achieve thus far: “an immediate end to all targeted or indiscriminate attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, and enhanced protection of civilians”, he added.
“There would be a dialogue which would lead to the formation of a new government with the participation of some opposition parties after the settlement of the situation on ground”.

For his part, Muin Ibrahim, another political analyst, told Xinhua that the success of the ceasefire would be the first step to bring to a halt the violence in Syria. Assad’s opponents say the army drops oil drums filled with explosives and shrapnel to cause indiscriminate harm in rebel areas. They also rejected the idea of Russian Federation being one of the nations negotiating the ceasefire.
This may well be the last chance to resolve the Syrian imbroglio before it transforms into something unmanageable involving powers in the region and beyond, while giving IS and other militant groups even more room to operate.
The Syrian military source also said operations were taking place in the northern Latakia area.
The shelling comes days before a “temporary cessation of hostilities” engineered by the US and Russian Federation is set to take effect.
USA officials have repeatedly couched the promised ceasefire as a test of Russia’s good faith in seeking a negotiated end to the conflict pitting Kremlin ally Bashar al-Assad’s regime and Russian warplanes against am array of rebel factions.
However it objects to Russian Federation being guarantor of the plan alongside the United States, saying Moscow was a direct party to the conflict, and that the plan ignored the role Damascus allies Russian Federation – which backs President al-Assad’s government – and Iran were playing.
