Trump momentum grows ahead of Super Tuesday next week

Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump flexes his muscles as he talks with caucus participants while visiting a Nevada Republican caucus site at Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, Nevada February 23, 2016. And even if Rubio did win Florida: Congratulations, he will have won his home state.

The poll shows Trump ahead of Rubio 44 to 28 percent among likely Republican primary voters.

Rubio captured second place with fewer than 2,000 more votes than Cruz as final vote totals were reported Wednesday morning.

After winning in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, Trump has momentum heading into March 1, or Super Tuesday, when Republicans hold nominating contests in a dozen states.

“We weren’t expected to win too much and now we’re winning, winning, winning the country”, Mr Trump said.

Ted Cruz, with his crushing win in the Nevada caucuses marking a third straight victory in state contests. Rubio, then, would have to start accumulating delegates en masse in the winner-take-all contests beginning that Tuesday, starting with his home state of Florida.

The intense rivalry between GOP presidential hopefuls Donald Trump and Sen.

“This latest triumph may only encourage Mr. Trump in the brash campaign style that has alienated many Republican officials and mainstream voters”, the Times said.

The good news for Rubio is that Bush’s exit has afforded the senator a bit more popularity in the state.

Gov. John Kasich of OH, who finished in fifth place in Nevada on Tuesday with 3.6 percent of the vote, had the support of 7 percent of Florida voters.

When asked which candidate that voters would “definitely not support”, the majority (26 percent) chose Ted Cruz followed by Trump (21 percent) and Rubio at 17 percent.

“We won the evangelicals”. “The challenge for him is that a lot of other states are also on the slate for Super Tuesday”.

Cruz, citing his win over Trump in Iowa, told the Fox News forum that “the only campaign that can beat Donald and the only that has beaten Donald is our campaign”. And two-thirds of Florida Republicans who say they want a strong leader are backing Trump.

One of Kasich’s key arguments is that he will win OH – although the same university’s poll of the Buckeye State released Tuesday showed him trailing the billionaire by 5 points.
