Maker of Tommee Tippee sippy cups address parents’ mold concerns

Tommee Tippee, a popular worldwide child product company, has recently been at the center of controversy after several parents went to Facebook with claims of finding mold in the mouthpieces of their children’s anti-spill sippy cups.

L’Hostie’s original photos, she explained her friend’s son had been sick and his mother couldn’t figure out why … until she removed the lid of his Tommee Tippee sippy cup to find mold inside the anti-leak fixture.

Complains about the cups began after a Montreal woman began to wonder why her friend’s son was sick for extended periods. While looking into the source of these health problems, the distressed parent made a decision to examine the Tommee Tippee plastic cup out of which his child had been drinking on a daily basis.

The mould is sitting in a place where parents can’t see it unless they split open the mouthpiece. For instance, coughing, skin irritation, nasal stuffiness or throat irritation may be symptoms of mold exposure.

Simon O’kanada’s friend, Marie-Pier S. L’Hostie, posted on Facebook pictures of the open moldy lids.

A review was carried out by Amazon and it has also found a mold inside the cup and suggested to avoid it. Tommee Tippee North America’s Facebook page was full of posts from concerned parents. Cleaning the plastic bottles in the dishwasher was equally fruitless, the pesky mold persisting virtually undefeated. In response to the criticism, the Tommee Tippee French PR team took action Monday to address the mold defect and negative feedback, and assured parents they were “actively working on the subject”. Thus, the company apologized to the consumers and promised the design of the said product will be altered in the next few months.

Apparently, no records have been kept from the initial phone conversation between Simon O’kanada and the customer service officer. We are talking to him about his use of the cup as we always welcome parents’ feedback, comments and ideas.

A spokesperson told BuzzFeed: “The results support that when used with recommended liquids (cold, light fluids including water and non-pulp juices) and cleaned in line with instructions, there are no problems”. Open your cups, remove the anti-spill guard and break it into two.

Fox4KC reports that one angry father took to Facebook to detail issues he discovered while using a Tommee Tippee cup. Anyone that would like a see-through valve or alternative cup should contact our Careline toll free on 1-877-248-6922, and one will be sent as quickly as possible.

According to the posts, parents are upset because the valve collects mold and isn’t easy to open and clean.
