There may be some truth to its possible release date considering Battlefield 4 released on October 29, 2013 as it tends to avoid directly competing with the Call of Duty series, which tends to release in mid November. After getting a constant stream of World War 2 shooters since the launch of the PS2, companies have started branching out into modern times and the future over the past few years. The retailer, World of Games (the store page has been archived, to keep it from being altered), has listed the game to release in October of this year, but that’s not the most interesting part of the listing. However, EA has yet to confirm the exact date – as well as any real details from DICE’s next foray into the Battlefield series. For much of the war, defensive technology surpassed offensive, making it not almost as mobile or “sexy” as the fighting that is generally associated with World War II. While games such as Verdun and Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts are set amidst the carnage of the First World War, Battlefield 5 would be the first Triple-A shooter to be set among the trenches of Europe.

As for a World War 1 setting, I suppose it’s possible, but not likely.
It appears that Battlefield 5 has been leaked. This has resulted in a series fatigue among the fans so a change of the setting could be a good idea for the series.
