The Jupiter resident is the first golfer to play his first 36 holes without bogey since the tournament moved to the PGA National Resort and Spa.

Fowler enjoyed a bogey-free round as he began with successive birdies at the second and third before picking up a third shot at the eighth.

“That’s a big accomplishment around this golf course – not just one day, but back-to-back”, Fowler said. However, he drops off precipitously after day one with subsequent rankings of: R2- 124th (70.89); R3- 185th and R4- 132nd, so his two-birdie against five-bogey effort on day two at PGA National was unfortunately, foreseeable. “So pleased with how I’ve managed my game”.

Bohn, whose most recent PGA Tour win came at the 2010 New Orleans Classic, missed the cut at the Honda Classic after carding scores of 71 and 72.

“I’m definitely pleased with the way I’ve played the last two days”.

“We got a good break playing in the afternoon”. Garcia had to play a 40-yard hook from the rough left of the 10th fairway to just short of the green for a simple par. His longest par putt was 12 feet on the fourth hole after driving into the bunker, and he ended his round with a 25-foot birdie putt on the ninth hole to reach 8-under 132.

“I kept myself in it with some solid up and downs, made some good putts and then continued to move forward”, Fowler said. “Again today I didn’t make a lot, but I made the ones that you expect to make”.

While his putter was to blame on Thursday, it was two errant tee-shots on par-threes which were the culprits this time.

McIlroy endured a turbulent start to his campaign as he made two birdies and three bogeys on the front nine.

Fowler spent a week in California with family and friends after his Phoenix playoff loss to Hideki Matsuyama, then got back to work at home in Florida. “Made of couple of birdies coming in, so it was a little bit of a bonus there at the last”. McIlroy took a triple bogey on the par-five fifth – his 14th hole of the round – and a birdie on the final hole put him at four-over 144. Garcia had a 69 and was two shots behind. But last week, I felt out of sorts.

“I was more anxious about the alligator that was on the other side of the island than getting out of the water”, Garcia said. “Rickie is playing really, really well so I am going to have to play extremely well to keep up with him and hopefully we’ll have a good chance on Sunday”.

Scott got off to a good start Friday by sinking a 10-foot eagle putt on the third and added three birdies. Fowler said he spent a week with friends and played plenty last week to get ready for a big stretch. “It was exactly what you want to do around this kind of golf course, in a little bit of wind”.
