Mitt Romney suggests a ‘bombshell’ lurks in Donald Trump’s tax returns

“The reason that I think there’s a bombshell in there is because every time he’s asked about his taxes he dodges and delays and says, ‘Well we’re working on it, ‘” Romney told Fox News.

He expressed particular concern about Trump’s finances, saying: “I think in Donald Trump’s case it’s likely to be a bombshell”.

That’s pretty ironic, given that questions about Romney’s tax returns dogged him throughout the 2012 presidential election, especially after Harry Reid said he’d heard from an unnamed source that Romney didn’t pay any taxes at all.

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney hasn’t endorsed a 2016 candidate yet, but has taken the stage to cast doubt on candidate Donald Trump.

Romney is also calling on Cruz and Marco Rubio to release their tax returns.

Donald Trump used the conversation on tax returns to his 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

“Think of an audit as an investigation, an on-going investigation”, Steven Goldburd, a lawyer who specializes in tax law, told The Washington Post.

Gage Skidmore/FoterDonald Trump says he “can’t” release his tax returns because he’s being audited.

In explaining why the Internal Revenue Service audits him every year, Donald Trump suggested Thursday night that the government agency has unfairly targeted him because of his religion. Nobody gets audited – I have friends that are very wealthy people.

“We haven’t seen institutions like the Club for Growth or Americans for Prosperity, which have ample resources, going after the tax returns and other parts of Trump’s past and business”, Will said.

“I can imagine either my lawyer or my PR adviser saying “don’t” until the audit is over”, Shaviro said.

This is Romney’s latest attack on Trump, who has won three out of the first four contests in the Republican nomination contest.

At a town hall moderated by Fox News host Megyn Kelly that aired Wednesday evening, Mr. Cruz, Mr. Rubio, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson all said they would release their figures.

Asked on CNN about the audits, Trump said: “Well, maybe because of the fact that I’m a strong Christian, and I feel strongly about it, maybe there’s a bias”.

Trump, however, in his characteristic way slammed Romney and described him as a fool.
