Arsene Wenger: My thoughts on playing Danny Welbeck against Manchester United

Arsenal have not won at Old Trafford in the Premier League since 2006, but are favourites to win this time.

“This has been an unpredictable Premier League season thus far”, he said.

A defeat for either side could be a damaging blow to their dreams, especially with the likes of Spurs and Leicester performing well consistently.

“Olivier Giroud is the man I’m backing to score first with Arsene Wenger’s side enhancing their title claims with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford”.

‘I don’t think there’s any other choice and I think that’s the team you’re going to see on Sunday, ‘ he added.

“Everybody drops points, it’s very unpredictable”. After their morale boosting win over Leicester City last week, Wenger will be hoping that side can pull off another special win against their bitter rivals this week as well.

It has been suggested that winning the Europa League may be United’s best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Manchester United play a less fluid game than the Azulgrana which should give Arsenal more of an opportunity.

Who will emerge victorious at Old Trafford on Sunday?

Striker Will Keane is nearly certainly out with a groin problem he picked up during the win over Shrewsbury on Monday night.

Wenger is rather more confident on Gabriel, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury. Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Phil Jones – all crucial to United’s defense – will be on the sidelines.

Although Arsenal’s forwards are enduring a goal drought, Wenger said he would be hesitant to push Welbeck too hard as he regains full match fitness after a long injury layoff. Jack Wilshere (leg), Santi Cazorla (knee) and Tomas Rosicky (thigh) remain unavailable.

Arsenal are 10 points ahead of Manchester United and humbled the Dutchman’s team earlier this season with a 3-0 win that was decided in the first 20 minutes of the game courtesy of a brace from Alexis Sanchez and one from Mesut Ozil.
