President Barack Obama will convene a meeting on Tuesday with the Republican and Democratic leaders of the U.S. Senate and its Judiciary Committee to discuss a Supreme Court nominee, the White House said on Thursday. The Republican leader in the Senate has vowed to block any nomination until after a new president takes office in January 2017. Despite Republican opposition, Obama has said he wants to push forward with nominating a justice, and that it will be hard for McConnell to explain why he wouldn’t consider an Obama appointee without looking like he was politically motivated, CNN reported.
The question over whether a vacancy should be filled this year on the U.S. Supreme Court is becoming an issue in two of the hottest races in Wisconsin, the battle for the U.S. Senate and for a spot on the state Supreme Court.
