President Barack Obama will convene a meeting on Tuesday with the Republican and Democratic leaders of the U.S. Senate and its Judiciary Committee to discuss a Supreme Court nominee, the White House said on Thursday. Republicans hope to win back the White House then. “We will not have a hearing”, Pelosi said of previous instances in which congressional Democrats have shown resistance to confirming a Republican president’s supreme court nominee. Dean Heller, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
“There will be cases in which a judge’s analysis necessarily will be shaped by his or her own perspective, ethics, and judgment”, he wrote, adding that he would announce a nominee in the next few weeks.
Under the Constitution, the president nominates judges for the lifetime position at the nation’s highest court, and it is up to the Senate to approve or reject the choice.
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito said the sudden death of his conservative colleague Antonin Scalia came as a “great shock to us” on the court but that “we will deal with” the vacancy on the nation’s high court, according to CNN. As the New York Times notes, “Democrats began orchestrating a campaign of political pressure…The leaking of Mr. Sandoval’s name appeared to be part of that effort”.
“From my perspective, he is a progressive”, Segerblom said, “He may not be the most liberal person in the world but the reality is, given where Washington is and where the Supreme Court now is, particularly if you compare him with Scalia, I think he would be an excellent choice”.
“I’m going to do my job”, Obama said.
Mari St. Martin, Sandoval’s communications director, said Wednesday that the governor hasn’t been contacted by the White House.
The Republican leader in the Senate has vowed to block any nomination until after a new president takes office in January 2017. Despite Republican opposition, Obama has said he wants to push forward with nominating a justice, and that it will be hard for McConnell to explain why he wouldn’t consider an Obama appointee without looking like he was politically motivated, CNN reported.
The question over whether a vacancy should be filled this year on the U.S. Supreme Court is becoming an issue in two of the hottest races in Wisconsin, the battle for the U.S. Senate and for a spot on the state Supreme Court.

“I believe it is important to make sure that our citizens, the 160,000 people that I represent, believe in the political system”, said Donnelly, an Arlington Democrat.
