She’s been nominated for an Academy Award a whopping six times, yet Glenn Close has never won in her category, although with three Tonys, two Golden Globes and three Emmys to her name, we’re sure she’s not too concerned.

Considering all the possible factors, and the actors brilliant works over the years, let’s have a look at the factors that could have stopped him from winning the Academy Awards.

Sunday, the Academy Awards folks weigh in.

When he won the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy for “The Wolf of Wall Street” two years ago, Leo recited a long list of thank yous. The Revenant was wonderful. The pair are nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. This was a result of Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer’s restrained script, which laid the groundwork for the film’s understated emotional punch.

DiCaprio is such a favorite to win that his victory has been predicted by Entertainment Weekly, The Associated Press, FiveThirtyEight, and USA Today. As for Adam McKay, would the Academy really vote the Best Director prize to the man who made “Step Brothers”? Containing mixed performances, with the exception of Christian Bale, The Big Short is not quite as shocking as it would like.

Fortunately, the latest anonymous voter had seen the likes of The Martian, which they enjoyed but concluded was “basically Cast Away on Mars”, and The Room (sic) which they found “amazing” and “riveting” despite seemingly not knowing that the film’s actual title is Room as opposed to the cult Tommy Wiseau movie. There seems to be an overwhelming consensus for the Pixar hit.

“Spotlight” is expected to win one race handily: Original Screenplay. For a fine job of wrestling real life into a lucid 128-minute screenplay-no easy task.

Worst part – The marketing for the film. In technical categories, it has the best shot at Cinematography and also Visual Effects.

So in short Leonardo DiCaprio is the strong nominee of the lot for the Best Actor category. Meanwhile, the top prize sometimes boils down to a popularity contest, and “The Martian” soared high above the others at the box office.

“It was a very good year for movies; I am glad that my movie is coming this year because so many good movie were released in 2015”. (They had managed this coup twice before, with “Up” and “Toy Story 3.”) Still, that snub positioned “Inside Out” in the top spot for animated feature, ahead of Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson’s’s critically acclaimed and transgressive stop-motion film, “Anomalisa”. Well, the thing is, that with five nominations, he’s one of the most-nominated actors to never achieve the award. Oh well. This year’s other honorees are “Cartel Land”, “What Happened, Miss Simone?” and “Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom”.
