Italy FA chief plays down Conte Chelsea talk

As Italy manager, Conte has been successful, overseeing an unbeaten Euro 2016 qualification campaign, but his contract is due to expire after this summer’s championships. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would then announce Conte as his team’s next manager if they have reached an agreement by then.

Chelsea are set to speak with Italian manager Antonio Conte regarding the managerial position at the club on Thursday according to several reports.

Whilst the links regarding Conte have seen a number of Serie A stars linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, Marchisio is said to be the priority for the West London giants. Mourinho’s sack at late December made way for Hiddink to tie his bandage on the wounds the Portuguese left behind and got the team to regain their confidence while gaining better results.

The ESPN FC panel react to speculation that Antonio Conte will be the man to manage Chelsea next season. If appointed to the Chelsea helm, the former Juventus captain will hope he can add the Champions League to his growing list of honors as a manager.

Conte met a delegation from Chelsea in Rome last week and he was present at the Champions League last-16 clash between Juventus and Bayern Munich on Tuesday night along with the Londoners’ technical director Michael Emenalo.

Andrea Pirlo was one such ally during his time at Juve and the elegant midfielder explained in his autobiography that Conte’s strong words often resonate deeply.

Under a headline on the paper’s English language site, Conte is only identified as the “favourite” for the job.

Conte is highly regarded after his work at Juventus, where he took a club that had finished seventh in their previous season, in 2010, to the Serie A title.
