‘Fuller House’ may please fans (but no one else)

The Olsen twins aren’t in the Fuller House revival on Netflix, but there are a few nods to the twins who played Michelle in the original series.

Although most of the main characters from the original “Full House” have returned for “Fuller House“, the show’s youngest character, Michelle Tanner, did not appear.

The rebooted version of the classic sitcom Full House has served as one of Netflix’s most-anticipated programs since it was first discussed back in April 2015, and it has finally arrived.

Longtime fans of “Full House” admitted that they stayed up all night to watch the entire season.

Almost thirty years later, in a part of San Francisco, the same house that the widowed Danny Tanner occupied with his three girls – a pre-teen, a child and an infant – his eldest D.J. now still lives in.

It got a little awkward when Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber were asked about the porn parody of their family show, Fuller House. It was a show that could wear its cheese on its sleeve, and you still wanted to eat it up because you really liked the people inside those sleeves. “If there are any negative review that’s how we feel about it with Fuller House; we did this for the fans and we think they’re going to absolutely love it”.

The show’s writers make it point within the first episode to give the audience a clear picture that these people have aged, but still retain some of their original nuances.

By the fourth episode, the show mostly sheds the inside jokes to focus on DJ’s veterinary practice, Steph’s withdrawal from a party-girl lifestyle and the kids at school. Jesse and his band, The Rippers, played a medley of songs, which started with The Beach Boys’ “Forever”, and ended with the Full House theme song. Though Candace Cameron Bure (DJ Tanner) claimed that the stare and hold was not “meant with any sort of malintent or anything”, the effect is pointed and unsettling.

The best “Full House” baseball take-off, though, remains the Giants’ “Full Clubhouse” video from last summer. To me, it’s the ideal alternative to cable/network tv that’s become very niche driven over the years. Michelle Tanner (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) doesn’t come back because she’s “busy in NY running her fashion empire”, the cast tells us as they mug directly at the camera.

“Hola, Tanner-inos!” she yells looking at the reunited cast around the breakfast table, “Whoa, I’m having an acid flashback”. I knew this was going to be a big deal, and I really, really was hoping we would have them in that first episode in some capacity.

“Never have I ever hooked up with another TGIF actor on the lot”, hostAndy Cohen said a couple of questions in.

“I think they should expect ‘Full House, ‘” the comedian said. Well, it looks like we’ll have to just stick to re-watching those Greek Yogurt commercials on Youtube for now.
