Angels lose third baseman David Freese to fractured finger
Freese appeared to get hit on the right arm after turning in an attempt to avoid Mike Pelfrey’s inside pitch to the right-handed hitter.

Freese must wear a splint for at least two weeks before another X-ray will determine how quickly he can return.
“I don’t like talking timelines with injuries, but if it’s about the same, it’s positive”, Freese said. “It’s kind of similar to past year”. He was out for 16 games.
“You want to be in there whether it’s spring training or it’s summer”.
Entering Wednesday night’s contest, Freese was hitting.241, which would rank as the worst batting average of his career by almost two points. “It’s big, but it’s just part of the season”. 240 with 11 homers and 43 runs batted in, was hit in the hand by a Mike Pelfrey fastball in the fourth inning and replaced by Taylor Featherston. Trout returned after missing a game for the first time season because of a left heel injury Tuesday and went hitless in four at-bats.
Although the Angels do have a third basemen in their system in 25-year-old Kyle Kubitza, who is hitting.276/.346/.446 in Triple-A this season, Kubitza’s first trip to the Majors did not go particularly well.

With the Angels on one of their hottest streaks in franchise history at 17-3 over their past 20 games, it could be a large blow with David Freese not in the lineup every day. 333 for the same Bees team with 31 RBIs in 38 games.
