‘Wrath of Khan’ Director Recruited for ‘New Star Trek’ Series!
The new Star Trek series marks the first original series developed for CBS All Access. And now it looks like they’ve upped the ante even more by recruiting simply the best “Star Trek” movie writer there ever was: Nicholas Meyer, director of “Wrath of Khan” and, arguably, savior of the franchise, has been recruited on to the new show as a writer and producer.

In the best piece of Star Trek news since Bryan Fuller was announced as showunner (which in itself was the best Star Trek news in at least a decade), Nicholas Meyer will report for duty in Starfleet when the new TV series launches. But Meyer gave a new lease on life to Kirk, Spock and the rest – while also proving that Trek could be thrilling and expansive, beyond just appealing to fan nostalgia. The multiple Emmy and Oscar nominee also wrote Star Trek IV andStar Trek VI.
Star Trek fanatics the world over are no doubt looking forward to watching more big screen adventures when Star Trek Beyond hits theaters this summer, but I know Im not alone in thinking that CBS in-development Trek series is starting to sound like it could be as exciting as anything the franchise has ever delivered. All first-run episodes will be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access.
So that he’s coming onboard to the new series, and contributing both as a writer and executive producer, is a positive sign CBS wants this show to work.
Nicholas Meyer has boarded the drama from Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
