Colombia reports nearly 43000 Zika cases

Public Health Officials said that Zika Virus symptoms can be mild and can last several days up to a week.

The World Health Organization is investigating whether there is evidence to support claims that Zika may be linked to an increase in cases of microcephaly and other birth defects in South America.

Local health departments are working to keep Zika out of MI, testing anyone reporting symptoms. We have not had any evidence of Zika spreading in Arkansas.

Professor Baylis, added: “We now have a number of Zika research projects in development, in collaboration with partners in Brazil and elsewhere”. While only one in five people who contract the disease express any symptoms, which include joint pain, fever and a rash.

Zika is spread mainly through the bite of a species of mosquito that’s not found in Montana, but the Center for Disease Control reports it can also be passed through sexual intercourse. Since the symptoms may not be severe, some people may not know that they have been infected with the virus.

Writing in a new comment article for Lancet Infectious Diseases, Professors Tom Solomon and Matthew Baylis, who are now developing Zika research projects as part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections, highlight what is known, and more importantly unknown, about the neurological effects of the virus and consider the approaches needed to tackle the outbreak.

As the weather gets warmer and mosquitos become more rampant, use insect repellants containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus. When indoors, make sure your window and door screens are keeping mosquitos out.
