AT&T suspends 5.1 Lollipop update for first gen Moto X

As stated by a Phone Arena report from last month, LG may not be planning to update the G3 device to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Like the G4, it is not certain when the LG G3 will get the next Android update.

We already reported that Telus planned to update the device to Android 5.1 on July 18th, but that date came and went without any satisfaction.

For reasons unknown, AT&T has just suspended the rollout of Android 5.1 to the first generation Moto X. A possibility exists that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to the AT&T variant of the Moto X 2013 encountered some bugs, which is why the network operator has opted to abruptly pull the Wi-Fi-only update.

Effective July 20, 2015, the Android 5.1 (Lollipop) software update for the Moto X (XT1058) has been temporarily suspended. “We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible”, revealed the AT&T support page. Tech observers remain divided over whether LG plans to update their newest flagship to latest Android Lollipop firmware.

As stated by a GottaBeMobile report, the LG G4 will receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop sometime later in 2015.

However, Android Origin remains skeptical – stating that LG has a history of skipping entire Lollipop updates.

Owners are reporting poor battery life, a few odd static noises or sounds coming from the device, and reboot issues. The source reported that the update will be ready in two months. AT&T is calling this a “temporary” suspension, but isn’t saying what exactly the issue is. Therefore, both the users who have and haven’t received the update will receive an OTA update. We’ve reached out to Motorola, and will report back once we know more details regarding the situation.
