Rapids general manager Tim Hinchey is thought to have been on Merseyside to finalise a deal with both Howard and the Toffees themselves. His subsequent contract with the Rapids runs till 2019. Talks have allegedly dragged on since then.
The reported transfer fee between MLS and Everton is expected to be between $600,000 and $750,000. But sources have confirmed to ESPN FC that Howard’s annual salary will be around $2m.
Either way, he’s about to become the highest-paid goalkeeper in MLS, but the question is, is he really worth it?
Tim Howard is on the brink of securing a return to Major League Soccer.
Howard, who turns 37 on March 6, recently lost his starting job at Everton to Joel Robles.
Colorado has been eager to increase its profile this offseason and had made acquiring a Mexico worldwide and a US counterpart a huge priority.
The Blues’ desire to be compensated for the final two years of Howard’s contract coupled are cited as one reason for the delay in getting a deal first mooted at the end of January over the line. His is not the type of signing MLS teams should be prioritizing, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun to watch Howard fly around, saving shots and yelling at people next year.
