Gabbard’s announcement comes a day after Clinton decisively defeated Sanders in SC and ahead of voting by almost a dozen states Tuesday. “I see it in my friends who now, a decade after we’ve come home, are still struggling to get out of a black hole”.

“You’ve seen the groundswell of support that he’s gotten – not only in our or two states but in states across the country – I think this where there’s a hunger for a leader, a commander-in-chief who is honest, who has integrity, who exercises good judgement”, Gabbard said.
Gabbard is probably well aware that her Sanders endorsement could harm her standing within the party’s power structure. “This is not just another issue…it’s deeply personal to me”, Ms Gabbard said on NBC’s “Meet the Press”.
Gabbard has, in her position at the DNC, sharply dissented with DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in the past and even questioned her leadership. In October, she said her invitation to the Democratic debate was revoked after she said there needed to be more debates.
Sanders, then a House member, said no, while Clinton voted to give Bush the authority. A major in the Hawaii National Guard who volunteered for two tours of duty in Iraq, she is one of only two female members of Congress to have served in a war zone.
Gabbard – like Sanders – has at times been at odds with the DNC in the 2016 election cycle.
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside her when our Party unites behind whoever emerges as our nominee”.
Clinton leads Sanders in the race for the nomination after a decisive win Saturday in the SC primary.
Gabbard’s move won the approval of one of Sanders’ celebrity supporters Sunday.
