United States election race: Hillary Clinton wins in Nevada
Hillary Clinton’s narrow victory in Nevada’s caucus was not what she expected just weeks ago when the polls indicated she would storm to victory.

In South Carolina, terrorism was the top issue for Republican primary voters, and three-quarters supported temporarily banning non-citizen Muslims from entering the United States, according to exit polls.
Voters in many mainly Hispanic and black neighbourhoods backed Mrs Clinton after she worked hard to connect with them.
Then the campaign moves into a trove of diverse, delegate-rich Southern states that are also considered favorable terrain for Clinton.
Three delegates remain to be allocated, based on votes in the congressional districts.
Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said in response to an email inquiry that it would be would be “irresponsible” to make that claim when Clinton won many Latino-majority precincts. “I think we are looking pretty good in Oklahoma”, Sanders said on “Meet the Press”. And he says he’s a better vision for how to end the bloodshed and unrest in Syria than those who offer themselves as “great military geniuses”.
Colorado and Minnesota both choose their delegates in caucuses.
About half of caucus attendees said they think the next president should generally continue President Barack Obama’s policies, while about 4 in 10 said they want the next president to have more liberal policies.
Caucus results in Iowa and New Hampshire gave Sanders a better image. The Unstoppable Juggernaut of 2015 won a caucus in Nevada by five points? Getting the younger vote has been a primary tactic so far in his campaign.
Clinton was long thought to be the Democrats’ inevitable nominee, but her performance in the first two states to vote fell far short of what she might have hoped for.
Last fall, she seemed downright angered by the term when it was lobbed her way.
Because of the lower turnout, Rolling Stone reports, those who did vote were older.
Sanders’s message about the system being rigged against average Americans has been shown to have a durable appeal, one that travels to different regions and across ethnic groups. If Mr. Sanders had prevailed in Nevada, the Clinton campaign would have suffered a serious setback.
“We can have a big showdown in Michigan”, Devine said.
“I think there’s an underlying question that maybe is really in the back of people’s minds”.
The surveys were conducted for The Associated Press and the television networks by Edison Research as Republican voters left their polling places at 35 randomly selected sites in SC and as Democratic voters arrived at 25 randomly selected caucus sites in Nevada.
Drilling down in the post caucus numbers Sanders does very well with Independents and first-time voters, but Clinton won with rank and file Democrats.
The Democratic Party estimated about 80,000 people showed up, a steep 31 percent drop from 2008. “That passion and activism gets blunted in primaries with much larger turnouts”. We think we have a pretty good shot at parts of Texas.
Another built-in advantage for Clinton as the establishment favorite are so-called superdelegates – people who are given votes at the convention by virtue of their elected offices or positions in the party.

With 99 percent of SC precincts reporting, Trump had 32.5 percent, followed by Rubio with 22.5 percent and Cruz with 22.3 percent.
