Booze is off the menu for Eurovision duo Joe and Jake

The singers, both former contestants on The Voice UK, won a public vote with You’re Not Alone, an uptempo, piano-driven song “about unity and love”.

“We’re in talks to get Joe and Jake’s name blasted on screens at the Wales v France rugby global which is at the Principality Stadium”.

Last night’s Eurovision decider was presented by Great British Bake Off Mel Giedroyc, 47, a self-confessed superfan of the musical show.

Duo Joe and Jake have been chosen to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm later this year.

They took part in the BBC’s The Voice talent show past year as separate artists, with Joe making it to the semi-final as part of Rita Ora’s team while Jake, mentored by will.i.am, progressed to the knockouts.

And Jake and Joe came out on top, despite not being the favourites, meaning they’ll be representing us all at Eurovision in Sweden this May! “We’ve just been singing and grafting”. “We’re not going to celebrate, we’re going to start practising so we can win!”

Organisers claim the new system will create a “dramatic finish”, with the overall victor only known once the final vote is in. On the website of BBC’s Media Centre, executive producer Guy Freeman said: “This year really will be the biggest song search for Eurovision the BBC has ever undertaken”.

4,47 million television viewers watched the broadcast live in front of their screens, a percentage of 12,3 of the whole viewing public within the country.
