Actress Brie Larson accepts her award for Best Actress, Room on stage at the 88th Oscars on Sunday (Monday in Manila) in Hollywood, California. Before she landed her breakthrough role in 21 Jump Street, Larson was a struggling actress just like anyone else.
Brie Larson is 1-for-1 at the Oscars.
If she wins, 26-year-old Brie will be applauded for her role as Joy “Ma” Newsome, a mum kidnapped in the adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel.
The film, which also stars 9-year-old Jacob Tremblay, chronicles the story of 5-year-old Jack and his mother (Larson) escaping from the underground room where they have been held captive for five years. She’s also tied to the film adaptation of Jeannette Walls’ memoir The Glass Castle, which will reunite Larson with Short Term 12 director Destin Cretton. Several teeny-bopping films later – Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Tanner Hall – Larson landed herself a recurring role in comedy drama The United States Of Tara alongside Toni Collette and Rosemarie DeWitt, with her role spanning 36 episodes. I’m standing here now completely myself.
This was Larson’s first Oscar nominations.
He added: “It’s bigger than I thought and more people than I thought”.
Do you think Brie is going to win Best Actress?
