Paul Merson has claimed that his former boss, Arsene Wenger should be axed by Arsenal should the club lose out to Leicester City or Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race.

Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Swansea on Sunday cut the gap at the top to two points and Ranieri said he will always be willing to gamble if it means they can maintain their charge.

Leicester City’s ground was transformed into an arena of anxiety on Saturday and this was surely a sign of things to come for Claudio Ranieri and his players as they pursue a fairytale ending to the season.

“I understand we are the surprise, but if we are realistic you say, yes, Leicester have made a fantastic season but the real competitors are Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham”.

“I hope he is ready because he is an important player. We emphasized that and the players responded”. Then with time running out, on comes Leonardo Ulloa and the Foxes match Norwich’s 3-4-3 formation – a change that ultimately earned their match-winning chance.

“We put King on and he plays very well with Drinkwater”, Ranieri said.

Norwich were disciplined and defensively resilient, with manager Alex Neil adopting a three-man -defence, yet Leicester celebrated at the end as if the title was already theirs.

The two results now make Saturday’s meeting of the north London sides at White Hart Lane all the more important although before then on Wednesday, Tottenham visit sixth-placed West Ham United while Arsenal host Swansea.

“Until four or five months ago no one was thinking about Leicester We are doing a very good season and they must understand at the top there is every day one new story”.

“We can not feel sorry for ourselves”, said manager Arsene Wenger whose team are three points behind Spurs.

Despite a late goal from Leandro Bacuna, Villa boss Remi Garde was left reflecting glumly to reporters: “We don’t have enough quality”. Seeing them score in the last minute is like getting a big punch on the jaw in the 10th round. Since I’ve been here, I don’t think there has been a week like we’re about to have now with West Ham and the derby on Saturday. Now we just have to think about West Brom on Tuesday, that’s the next game, let’s focus 100 per cent on that and not worry about other things.
