‘Deadpool’ X-Men Crossover Not Happening Anytime Soon

For one thing, they want to fully establish Deadpool’s universe and storyline before bringing any additional plotlines into the mix. Now that X-Men: Apocalypse is following the First Class group, it would be seemingly impossible for Deadpool to somehow interact with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and James McAvoy’s Professor X. Speaking with The Playlist, Deadpool writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick says we may be waiting a while for a Deadpool crossover. Below are some highlights.

“If you look at the Iron Man model they had two Iron Man [movies] before they had an Avengers, and if left up to us, I think that would be a very prudent path”, adds Reese.

“The X-Men series is now set in the 1980s [while] Deadpool is set three decades later in our present day”, Reese said in a recent interview regarding the possibility of the anti-hero teaming up with the rest of Marvel’s beloved characters. The X-Men films has barley touched any of the history of X-Force with the exception of introducing a handful of characters, and even then with the timeline reset thanks to Days of Future Past, pretty much anything can happen.

Wernick continued to mention how it’s nice that 20th Century Fox now has two franchises in one even though he thinks Deadpool stands alone. In his opinion this gives them two separate franchises in one and that while there will be a synergy between the two, they are also still very distinct in their own right.

Wernick on using Cable in the sequel: “Yeah, we’re on that path. We teased him in the coda, we’re sticking to those plans and are having a great time writing”. We don’t know. We just know it’s likely she’ll be in the movie, and she’ll make a worthy adversary (and eventually ally) for Deadpool and Cable if this is all building to an X-Force movie. So, I don’t think you’ll see like five strong characters, you know, super strong characters in the sequel. Taking into account the writers seem to be straying away from Kingberg’s staple X-Men members, it’s hard to say who that “Ferarri” will be.

For those that aren’t aware, Domino, aka Neena Thurman, is a mercenary who has the mutant ability to manipulate luck and use it in stressful situations to come out on top.
