Obviously you can still be a feminist and wear glittery, pretty party clothes – that’s not up for discussion, but surely there has to be a middle ground between Sofia Vergara-esque corseted sexy dresses and saccharine princess styles? The Swedish actress had flown to Hollywood in 2013 to support “A Royal Affair” – a Danish picture competing for the foreign film prize that year – but she was barely known outside of Europe.

For her makeup, Alicia went with a less-is-more look that concentrated on a golden glow with lightly defined lashes and flushed pink cheeks and lips. “She has gone from nothing, nothing, nothing to wanting to try things and I knew today it had to be something special”.

And Charlize Theron, the statuesque star of “Mad Max: Fury Road”, looked stunning in a red Dior gown with a plunging neckline – and a long head-turning Harry Winston diamond necklace.

She wasn’t the only one in green, with Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner donning a verdant gown as part of the Red Carpet Green Dress campaign. The initiative was spearheaded by James and Suzy Amis Cameron and had another participant on the carpet, Lily Cole. It also had buttons and busy pointed ruffles, all in embroidered gray tulle. It was strapless with asymmetric draped detailing.

“There was so much individuality, so much whimsy to the look”, he said.

Naomi Watts and supermodel Heidi Klum have shared their pre-Oscars prep on social media. To copy her bronzed skin, use an at-home tanner like St. Tropez Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil, which is also available in a moisturizing, oil-free face option.

Who stuck out among the guys?

Host Chris Rock did not shy away from the diversity issues plaguing this year’s awards and opened the ceremony by declaring Hollywood is “racist” and admitting he considered boycotting the ceremony because of the absence of black nominees.
