Google starts selling View Master, Cardbaord VR viewer via official store

Need a cheap – really cheap – virtual reality headset? They’ve previously left the sales of devices, including the DIY Cardboard headsets to other manufacturers but now it seems you can buy them from Google themselves, at least in the US. This model is as close as you’ll get to an official Cardboard viewer from Google. In this section you’ll be able to download notable VR applications, as well as purchase a handful of virtual reality viewers directly from Google.

For some inexplicable reason, given it’s only a piece of cardboard with some plastic lenses, Cardboard is not available in all countries, but folks in the USA can pick it up now.

The Cardboard VR viewer is now not available to South Africans through the Google shop. This one also works with Android and iOS smartphones with a display size of 4 to 6-inches.

Another product, Goggle Tech C1-Glass VR Viewer, looks like a pair of spectacles mounted on a polycarbonate frame.

The site states that anyone can now “experience the magic of VR with your smartphone” and lists headsets like Google Cardboard, Mattel View-Master, and Google Tech C1-Glass VR Viewer.
