He said: “When I inquired from the village head of the area four days ago, he confirmed to me that the girl is still with Yunusa Dahiru in Kura local government area of Kano state”.
The recording appeared a conversation between Miss Oruru and a police interrogator in Kano.
That the girl had not yet reached an age where she could take the decisions attributed to her without the approval of her parents.
“I was there to protect her rights”, Ms. Mohammed said.
“She is crying and refusing to go home”.
“She is very defiant”.
Sanusi said he solicited for the intervention of the police authorities because the girl was said to have made a statement that she was afraid that her parents could harm her.
“She is not mature enough”.
What will you tell people who claim your sister is 17, and not 14 years old as your mother has said? “My names are Tosan Blessing Merhiakpome Harriman and that’s the way I see it”. I can’t be 16 years old, and my younger sister will be older than me. I was enraged thinking that it was an old man involved in the saga.
“That is why we said she must be taken back to her parents”.
In his reaction, the emir of Kano denied reports that he was holding Miss Oruru.
The Emirate council in a statement released yesterday February 29th, said that Ese was at no time in the custody of the Emir of Kano state, Muhammadu Sanusi II as been reported.
The emir said that to his surprise, he just saw online stories alleging that he ordered the girl to remain in captivity in the palace.
