Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn crashed and had to be taken away on a rescue sled at the World Cup Super-G.

The French woman knew after yesterday’s race she could sign a great performance in the first run of the Super Combined, in order to be well placed for the slalom. A giant slalom specialist, Brignone earned her maiden win in the season-opening race in October in Soelden, Austria, and Saturday’s win was her first podium in a different discipline.

She is still listed on Sunday’s World Cup start list, but said she will wait and see how she feels tomorrow before deciding if she will race.

Vonn ended the day with an increased lead over Gut as she advanced to 1235 points, 28 points more than her Swiss rival. “Wish me luck!!” she said. “That’s ski racing. If you’re on the good side of it, you have to take advantage of it. If you’re on the bad side, you just hope for the best next time”.

The crash didn’t look all that violent but Vonn later confirmed that she had a hairline fracture of her knee and will have an MRI on Monday.

Gagnon led Wendy Holdener of Switzerland by 0.20, and Anne-Sophie Barthet of France by 0.61.

When the weather finally cleared after three hours of delay on Saturday, the course had variable snow.

Canada’s Marie-Michele Gagnon captured her second World Cup title of her skiing career Sunday, and credited a recent change in outlook. “It’s like insane, I can’t believe it”, she said.
