YouTube redesign priority is ‘mobile, mobile, and mobile’

It also adds editing tools for filters and music within the app. The redesign is available for Android devices right away, with support for Apple devices coming soon.

The app has a “streamlined design”, YouTube says, with three main pathways: a personalized home page, a subscriptions page for channels that users have signed up for, and an account page.

Wojcicki also announced a redesign of YouTube’s mobile app that allows fans to be notified when creators they follow post new videos. Bud Light is the first U.S. brand to use the technology on YouTube’s TrueView skippable ad platform where advertisers only pay when viewers don’t skip the ad or watch 30 seconds or more of the ad, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to a study YouTube re-commissioned in Variety this year, eight out of ten of the most popular celebrities among teenagers in 2015 are, you guessed it, YouTube stars. If a user wishes to advertise on a 360-degree video, they will have to use a camera which Google supports.

Separately, YouTube launched a new app earlier this year specifically for kids. But it is facing new competition from Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and a bevy of other rivals. With this growth, watch time on the platform has also increased 60 percent year-over-year.

That’s why it was notable that Wojcicki said in her keynote that “YouTube just had its best year ever”, and thanked the video creators in the audience for helping make that happen.

YouTube’s new ads give advertisers the opportunity to probe the 360-degree video format before VR headsets hit the mass market at the end of this year. She spoke about the live-stream feature that will go from a 12-step process to three, and the addition of two new studio spaces in Toronto and Mumbai. What she had to say was, well, a lot of what we already know about YouTube past, present, and future.
