Magnitude-6.4 quake strikes in ocean northeast of Barbados
The magnitude-6.4 quake hit around 11:15 a.m. ET, and was centered 87 miles northeast of Barbados.

It was felt in Bridgetown and in parts of the Caribbean, including Haiti.
At 11:16a.m., an natural disaster measuring 6.4 magnitude was generated 125 kilometres north-east of Barbados at a depth of 10 kilometres.
These earth tremors were reportedly felt throughout Barbados, St Vincent, Grenada, Dominica, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Caribbean is an active seismic region; the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre has warned of a major Caribbean natural disaster, saying that it is a matter of when not if.
She said citizens needed to have those guidelines.
They have to ensure that agencies such as ours that study these designs, to have developed an understanding of the hazards, are properly funded because we need the resources in order to do the work, Latchman stressed.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injury.
In a statement, the center however cautioned, “there is a small possibility that a local tsunami could affect coasts located usually no more than a 100 kilometres from the quake epicenter”.

Pedro Barker, a resident of the island of Barbados said he is concerned about the origin of the quakes, “because there were two tremors in such a short space of time”. In the Bagatelle Terrace area of Barbados, residents said they nervous about another quake. He also told reporters he was rendered dizzy as the ground began to move under him this morning.
